Teucrium Oliverianum Thrives in Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve

Riyadh: Teucrium oliverianum, locally known as Al-Aihlan, is a perennial herbaceous plant native to the Arabian Peninsula, renowned for its remarkable adaptability to harsh environments. Highly valued for grazing, it is characterized by long, thin stems and delicate leaves, coated with fine bristles that help minimize water loss.

According to Saudi Press Agency, experts note that the forked roots of Teucrium oliverianum play a vital role in stabilizing sandy soil, preventing sand encroachment, and mitigating desertification. Additionally, the plant provides shelter and sustenance for various small desert animals and insects, making it an essential part of the natural food chain.

The plant has spread extensively throughout the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve, indicating a healthy, stable vegetation cover, a balanced ecosystem, and soil free from erosion or desertification. The reserve has recently seen a remarkable expansion in its vegetation cover, and it has now reached its best condition since its establishment in 2018.
