Riyadh: The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) detected a non-compliant advertisement for a medical device intended to reduce pain and improve joint function in cases of mild osteoarthritis, finding that it contained inaccurate and exaggerated medical claims in violation of regulations governing the advertising of medical devices and supplies.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the SFDA took the necessary legal and regulatory measures against the company responsible for the violation. Competent authorities closed the healthcare facility, and the advertiser was referred to the relevant authorities for further legal proceedings.

The SFDA said the violations are subject to the Medical Devices Law and its Implementing Regulation. Penalties can include a fine of up to SAR5 million, temporary closure of the facility for up to 180 days, a ban on engaging in activities related to medical devices and supplies for the same period, as well as license revocation.

The SFDA called for reporting violations through the unified number (19999) and verifying medical information and claims through official sources before making decisions related to health and treatment.
