Makkah: The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has implemented a series of vital projects and significant investments in Makkah, Madinah, and the holy sites. Overseen by the Ministry of Energy, these initiatives are part of preparations for the 1446 AH Hajj season and aim to ensure a reliable electricity supply to support various services for pilgrims.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the company recently completed over 30 projects under SEC’s Makkah Electricity Department, with a total cost exceeding SAR516 million. In Madinah, more than 21 projects were completed, costing over SAR84 million.
Among the projects for this year’s Hajj is the installation of gas-insulated transformers in Makkah’s central area. This project, the first of its kind in the Kingdom and the Middle East, involved replacing oil-filled transformers with gas-insulated units at Haram 2 and Haram 3 stations. This upgrade aims to enhance safety standards and improve the reliability of the electrical grid.
In Arafat and Mina, SEC executed several specialized projects for Kidana Development Company, ensuring stable and reliable electricity for pilgrim camps. These projects cost over SAR1.98 billion and included constructing the West Arafat central power transmission station (380 kV), along with four other power transmission stations (110/13.8 kV) in Mina and Arafat.
Other significant projects include connecting high-voltage stations to distribution networks in the holy sites, with cables extending 645 km at a cost of SAR282 million. Investments also covered projects to reinforce and replace electrical networks at a cost of SAR98 million, in addition to fence construction costing over SAR6.2 million. Maintenance work for stations, distribution cabinets, meter boxes, and terminal ends cost approximately SAR35 million.
In Madinah, SEC implemented vital projects as part of the major cities enhancement program to improve the electrical grid’s efficiency and reliability. These projects include the construction of key stations to enhance stability and meet the region’s growing power demand.
These projects underscore SEC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the electrical infrastructure in Makkah, Madinah, and the holy sites. By providing stable and safe power, SEC aims to ensure the comfort and safety of pilgrims and elevate the quality of services, reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to offering a seamless and integrated experience for all pilgrims.
