SDAIA President and China Ambassador Explore AI Ethics Advancements at UNESCO’s Riyadh Center

Riyadh: Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) President Dr. Abdullah Alghamdi and Chinese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Chang Hua visited the International Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Ethics (ICAIRE), a UNESCO-affiliated institution based in Riyadh. Alghamdi reviewed the center’s progress and its global initiatives to promote artificial-intelligence ethics and support women’s empowerment.

According to Saudi Press Agency, ICAIRE acting Managing Director Abdulrahman Habib provided an overview of the center’s key efforts, including the Elevate Initiative. This initiative aims to empower 25,000 women globally in the AI field by enhancing their knowledge of advanced AI technologies and preparing them for the job market. It serves as a model for women’s empowerment and promotes technology inclusiveness.

Habib emphasized ICAIRE’s international endeavors to advocate for the responsible use of AI technologies and its mission to aid countries in establishing ethical AI frameworks for humanity’s benefit
. The center’s work focuses on four main pillars: supporting research and development, raising awareness about AI ethics, building and enhancing capabilities, and formulating relevant policies and recommendations.

He also mentioned ICAIRE’s involvement in organizing the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (IAIO) and launching its first global research initiative. This initiative seeks to unite researchers and produce impactful studies for publication in leading scientific platforms.

Furthermore, Habib highlighted ICAIRE’s collaborative events with Arab and regional organizations, its assistance to Saudi Arabia in implementing UNESCO’s Readiness Assessment Methodology, and its ongoing interactions with the UN High-Level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence.
