Saudi EXIM Bank Partners with Access Bank South Africa to Boost Trade

Riyadh: The Saudi Export-Import Bank (Saudi EXIM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Access Bank South Africa Limited during an official visit to the Republic of South Africa. This strategic move is geared towards enhancing partnerships and expanding cooperative efforts with financial institutions, thereby fostering trade and investment growth between the two nations.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the MoU was formalized by the CEO of Saudi EXIM, Eng. Saad bin Abdulaziz Alkhalb, and Access Bank South Africa Limited's Executive Director and Chief Risk Officer, Rajesh Jayrajh, with the Saudi Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa, Faisal bin Falah Alharbi, in attendance.

The main focus of the MoU is to boost collaboration in the export of products and services and facilitate the exchange of information and expertise. It also aims to promote business interactions between companies in both countries to increase commercial opportunities, identify mutually beneficial projects, and explore insurance, guarantee, and reinsurance possibilities related to export transactions.

Furthermore, the agreement seeks to reinforce the exchange of knowledge on export credit policies and practices, foster the sharing of expertise and best practices, and explore developmental opportunities while addressing shared challenges. This includes promoting collaboration through various platforms such as meetings, conferences, workshops, training sessions, and joint research initiatives.

Eng. Saad bin Abdulaziz Alkhalb, CEO of Saudi EXIM, emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating that it marks a crucial step in enhancing Saudi EXIM's strategic alliances with leading financial institutions across Africa. The collaboration is expected to pave the way for economic and trade cooperation between Saudi Arabia and South Africa, providing a framework for exporters in both countries to capitalize on available trade and investment opportunities, and supporting the expansion of Saudi non-oil exports.

He further remarked that this partnership aligns with Saudi EXIM's commitment to fostering the growth of non-oil exports and creating global market opportunities for Saudi products and services, in line with Saudi Vision 2030's objectives to diversify the national economy.

During the visit, the Saudi EXIM delegation, in collaboration with the Saudi Commercial Attach© in Johannesburg, organized a roundtable aimed at strengthening economic partnerships and extending trade and investment between the two countries. This event also served to introduce South African companies and financial institutions to incentive-based credit solutions for importing Saudi products and services.

Additionally, the Saudi EXIM delegation engaged in high-level bilateral discussions with Standard Bank Group, Absa Group, and the Export Credit Insurance Corporation of South Africa (ECIC). These meetings centered on exploring cooperation in trade finance, export credit guarantees, risk management, co-financing opportunities, and developing strategic partnerships to enhance trade and investment flows between Saudi Arabia and South Africa.

Saudi EXIM remains committed to expanding its strategic partnerships to improve the efficiency of the export and import ecosystem and facilitate trade with regional and global markets. The bank continues to stimulate trade and investment opportunities for local exporters across various sectors, with a focus on building international partnerships that contribute to the growth, diversification, and global competitiveness of Saudi non-oil exports.
