Riyadh: Saudi Arabia is marking International Cinema Day, a significant cultural event celebrated every year on December 28. This day is dedicated to honoring cinematic heritage through various initiatives, such as preserving and digitally restoring classic films. The celebration includes cultural and training events, offering free or discounted screenings, panel discussions, workshops with directors and filmmakers, and showcases of emerging talent.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the day highlights the role of the Film Commission in establishing a competitive national film industry. This involves regulating the sector, empowering local talent, developing infrastructure, attracting investment, and promoting local content. These initiatives are designed to bolster the creative economy and strengthen Saudi Arabia's presence both regionally and globally.
The Kingdom hosts numerous local and international film festivals each year. Among them is the Red Sea International Film Festival, the largest in Saudi Arabia and a prominent event in the Middle East, featuring films from over 70 countries across various categories, including feature films, documentaries, and animation. Other notable events include the Saudi Film Festival, the Saudi Film Confex, and the Film Criticism Forum. These festivals celebrate local talent, cultural identity, and foster international collaboration, aligning with the goals of Vision 2030.
