Riyadh: World Blood Donor Day is observed annually on June 14 to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and honor donors who help save lives through this humanitarian act. Celebrated globally since its designation by the World Health Assembly in 2005, the day aims to improve the quality of life for patients dependent on blood transfusions and supports the development of a safe blood supply.

According to Saudi Press Agency, awareness campaigns are conducted across various provinces and regions to promote community education on the safe use of blood products and the importance of donating blood. Saudi Arabia ranks first globally among 28 countries in willingness to donate blood, with a rate of 58%, based on a study conducted by the British firm Ipsos MORI.

The Saudi Ministry of Health has published key facts on its official website, emphasizing that blood transfusions save millions of lives annually and support the execution of complex medical and surgical procedures. The ministry highlighted that approximately 12,700 blood donation centers in 170 countries reported collecting 100 million donations.
