Saudi Arabia Emphasizes Strengthening Global Collaboration at Eco Expo Asia 2024 in Hong Kong.

Hong kong: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the guest of honor at Eco Expo Asia 2024 in Hong Kong, has emphasized the importance of strengthening efforts to protect the environment and preserve natural resources to ensure a sustainable future, achieve carbon neutrality, increase reliance on renewable energy, and adopt a circular economy.

According to Saudi Press Agency, spokesperson for the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture and Head of the Saudi delegation at the event, Saleh Abdulmohsen Bindakhil, highlighted Eco Expo Asia as an international forum. This expo unites global industry leaders to exchange insights on environmental protection and promote green technologies.

Bindakhil emphasized that the Kingdom is making significant and continuous efforts to preserve the environment with unlimited support from the leadership and the concerted efforts of all national entities. The Kingdom is actively engaging in significant environmental initiatives both nationally and globally. These efforts include th
e Saudi Green Initiative, which aims to plant 10 billion trees, equivalent to rehabilitating 40 million hectares in Saudi Arabia to boost vegetation cover and increase protected areas to 30%. Additionally, the Kingdom has embraced the circular carbon economy to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060. The Middle East Green Initiative, another major project, plans to plant 50 billion trees to preserve vegetation cover, combat climate change, and enhance quality of life. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia launched with G20 the Global Initiative on Reducing Land Degradation and Enhancing Conservation of Terrestrial Habitats.

“The Kingdom is setting ambitious environmental goals, aiming to strengthen global efforts against desertification as it prepares to host COP16 in Riyadh this December,” Bindakhil said. “We call upon all to engage meaningfully in COP16 to accelerate efforts in rehabilitating millions of hectares of degraded land, combating drought, and achieving environmental goals.”
