Riyadh: The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) has recognized the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as free of equine infectious anemia (EIA). This recognition follows a thorough technical assessment of the Kingdom’s submission, prepared by the National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plant Pests and Animal Diseases (Weqaa Center). It confirms the Kingdom’s compliance with internationally recognized standards and requirements for declaring countries free from epidemic animal diseases.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Head of the Animal Health Sector at Weqaa Center Dr. Sanad Al-Harbi emphasized that this international recognition reflects the effectiveness of the veterinary procedures implemented in the Kingdom. He noted that it also contributes to strengthening trade relations between Saudi Arabia and other countries by facilitating the review and accreditation of veterinary health certificates in accordance with the latest international standards.
Dr. Al-Harbi highlighted that the Weqaa Center continues its efforts to protect animal resources through proactive monitoring and control programs aimed at limiting the spread of epidemic diseases. These efforts include enhancing veterinary health and care while strengthening the Kingdom’s position both regionally and globally.
The WOAH is the global authority on animal health, established in 1924. WOAH is committed to promoting transparency in reporting animal diseases and enhancing animal health worldwide, thereby contributing to a safer, healthier, and more sustainable global environment.
