Saudi Arabia Calls for Accountability, End to Impunity for Conflict-Related Sexual Violence at UN Session

Saudi arabia: Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, participated in the Security Council session on sexual violence in areas of armed conflict, delivering a statement on behalf of the Kingdom. He highlighted that such violence is a threat to international peace and security and emphasized the need to hold perpetrators accountable to eliminate impunity.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Dr. Alwasil underscored the importance of adhering to international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions. He stressed the need for the protection of civilians and ensuring unimpeded access for humanitarian aid. He praised the efforts of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center in assisting those affected by conflicts, including victims of sexual violence, in collaboration with international organizations.

Additionally, Dr. Alwasil addressed violations in the Palestinian territories, including instances of sexual violence, identifying them as serious breaches of international law. He urged immediate international action to protect civilians and ensure accountability for those responsible. He concluded by emphasizing that safeguarding civilians from sexual violence is a collective legal and moral duty, requiring strengthened international cooperation and a response to the plight of victims.
