Salman Al Khalifa Highlights Ambitious Vision for AFC Asian Cup 2027 in Saudi Arabia

Diriyah: Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and Senior Vice President of FIFA, emphasized that the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 is set to be exceptional. He described the tournament as a significant opportunity to showcase the advancements in Asian football and elevate the status of the AFC Asian Cup on the global stage.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Shaikh Salman expressed these sentiments during the tournament draw ceremony held recently in Diriyah. He highlighted that the Asian Football Confederation is committed to keeping up with the development of football across Asia, amidst the sport's growing popularity and expanding fan base. He commended the support from Saudi officials, including the Ministry of Sport, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, and the local organizing committee, which played a crucial role in ensuring the success of the draw ceremony. This collaboration between the AFC and Saudi authorities aims to present the event in a way that reflects the stature of Asian football.

Shaikh Salman also noted that the AFC Asian Cup has seen significant development in recent years, with expanded participation to 24 national teams and the adoption of high organizational standards. He expressed confidence in Saudi Arabia's capacity to host the event, citing its extensive capabilities, organizational experience, and robust infrastructure. The AFC is working closely with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation and the local organizing committee to organize the best edition of the AFC Asian Cup in history.

He concluded by acknowledging Asia's growing influence in world football, citing the participation of nine Asian national teams in the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 as a pivotal achievement. He expressed optimism that the teams participating in the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 will showcase the progress of Asian football, fulfilling the aspirations of fans across the continent.
