SABIC Wins RandD 100 Award for First-of-Its-Kind Laser-Weldable Material for Breakthrough in Solar PV Manufacturing

Riyadh: For the sixth year in a row, SABIC has demonstrated its industry-leading position in research and innovation by being recognized with a RandD 100 Award, this year for its breakthrough NORYL V0 resins, the first-of-its-kind laser-weldable specialty material engineered for the solar energy market. The award in the Materials Science category demonstrates SABIC's leadership in innovation and its continuous efforts to advance the global adoption of solar energy through materials that help improve manufacturing efficiency and long-term component performance.

According to Saudi Press Agency, in remarks on winning the award, SABIC CEO and Executive Board Member Dr. Faisal Alfaqeer stated, "We are honored to receive this prestigious global recognition, which reflects our commitment to solving complex industry challenges through technology expertise and a relentless focus on creating value for our customers. NORYL V0150TW (absorptive) and V0150IR2 (transmissive) resins uniquely combine flame retardancy, improved weatherability, and superior sealing performance, enabling faster and cleaner manufacturing of photovoltaic microinverters while significantly enhancing their reliability and outdoor stability. It helps lower energy consumption, reduce material waste and manufacturing costs- all contributing to accelerating renewable solar adoption, an energy source that brings lasting environmental and societal benefits.

NORYL V0 Resins also received an Edison Award this year in the Materials Science category, highlighting SABIC's contribution to industrial progress and advancing its vision of becoming the preferred world leader in chemicals.

SABIC's history of achievements in the RandD 100 Award, a highly competitive global science and innovation competition, includes three finalist honors and seven awards since 2021. The annual RandD 100 Award competition honors the world's most innovative new technologies, commercial products, and materials for their technological significance. Past award recipients include established Fortune 500 companies.
