Roads Authority: Saudi Road Code Marks Milestone in Enhancing Quality, Safety Standards

Riyadh: In celebration of World Standards Day, observed annually on October 14, the Roads General Authority stressed that the Saudi Road Code represents a comprehensive regulatory framework that enhances the quality and efficiency of the Kingdom’s road network while ensuring the highest standards of safety and sustainability.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the occasion highlights the importance of the standards and specifications established under the code, which serves as a technical reference for all entities responsible for roads in Saudi Arabia. The code covers the entire life cycle of a road, from planning and design to implementation and maintenance.

The authority noted that the Saudi Road Code encompasses 25 specialized sub-codes addressing diverse areas such as preliminary planning, engineering studies, design, road facilities, and maintenance. It aims to enable relevant entities to access essential information for the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of all road types across the Kingdom. The code integrates environmental considerations and autonomous vehicle requirements, providing guidelines, drawings, procedures, and checklists to ensure the highest levels of quality, safety, security, economic efficiency, and sustainability.

The authority reiterated its commitment to continually updating and developing the code in line with global advancements in the transportation sector, stressing that the framework reflects the Saudi Vision 2030 goal of improving road quality and infrastructure.

The authority also called on all relevant entities to adhere to the code’s standards to ensure a safer and more sustainable future for Saudi Arabia’s road network.
