Roads Authority Highlights Environmental Sustainability Initiatives in Road Sector

Riyadh: The Roads General Authority continues to adopt environmental technologies and initiatives aimed at enhancing sustainability and developing more efficient infrastructure, in line with the objectives of the road sector program to support innovation and environmental protection.

According to Saudi Press Agency, on the occasion of World Environment Day, the Saudi Road Code emphasizes environmental considerations by reducing the impact of road projects on natural resources. The code includes requirements and specifications for assessing, mitigating, and monitoring environmental impacts throughout all stages of a project's lifecycle.

As part of its research efforts, a study conducted by the authority successfully demonstrated the reuse of aggregates derived from construction waste and old concrete in asphalt mixtures and granular layers, helping reduce waste and reliance on raw materials.

The authority has also expanded the use of recycled rubber from used tires in asphalt mixtures, helping reduce pollution and support sustainability in the road sector.
