Riyadh University of Arts Partners with USC School of Cinematic Arts for Cultural Exchange

Riyadh: The Riyadh University of Arts (RUA), affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, signed an agreement with the University of Southern California’s (USC) School of Cinematic Arts (SCA) to develop cultural and artistic talent and drive cultural exchange. The signing ceremony took place at the Red Sea International Film Festival, with Deputy Minister of National Partnerships and Talent Development at the Ministry of Culture Noha Kattan representing RUA and USC School of Cinematic Arts Associate Dean Alan Baker representing USC.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the agreement entails collaboration between USC School of Cinematic Arts and RUA in developing the Bachelor’s and Diploma’s curriculum and courses for students enrolled in RUA’s College of Film. Senior SCA faculty and staff will share best practices with RUA’s College of Film students and develop special training programs for new instructors in the MENA region and internationally.

The USC School of Cinematic Arts, based in Los Angeles, is recognized globally for its contributions to film and cinematic arts education. The school has a significant history of producing graduates who have become influential filmmakers and storytellers in Hollywood. It offers a comprehensive interdisciplinary learning experience that incorporates the latest technological advancements and storytelling techniques across various disciplines, including film, television, and interactive media.

This partnership is part of a broader initiative involving Riyadh University of Arts and leading international institutions to co-design academic programs, collaborate on research, and provide enriching cultural education and development programs. RUA, announced in September 2025 at the Cultural Investment Conference by Minister of Culture Prince Bader bin Abdullah bin Farhan, aims to serve as a cornerstone for creative education and cultural innovation in the Kingdom.

RUA plans to offer a wide range of educational levels through gradual phasing, encompassing all subsectors and providing a comprehensive academic portfolio. This includes short courses, diplomas, bachelor’s degrees, higher diplomas, master’s degrees, and PhDs, ensuring continuous education in arts and culture. Full details of RUA, its colleges, and partnerships will be announced on its official website when it launches in the first quarter of 2026.
