Riyadh to Host Second International Conference on Sand and Dust Storms

Riyadh: Riyadh will host the second International Conference on Sand and Dust Storms in late 2026, bringing together leaders and representatives from international organizations, along with top researchers and specialists.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Sand and Dust Storm Regional Center Executive Director Jumaan Al-Qahtani noted that this conference builds on the successes of the inaugural edition, which led to the Riyadh Declaration. This declaration serves as a roadmap for addressing sand and dust storm challenges and enhancing coordination among regional countries to manage transboundary dust storms. It also supports source countries in mitigating impacts and encourages scientific studies to identify causes and develop regional solutions.

This conference aligns with the Kingdom’s achievements during the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, which launched partnerships and programs aimed at tackling desertification, drought, and the impacts of climate change.
