Riyadh Commences Construction of Tunnel and Bridges at Al-Thumama Intersection

Riyadh: The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has initiated the construction of a tunnel and four overpasses at the intersection of Al-Thumama and Othman bin Affan roads. This significant infrastructure project is part of the Al-Thumama Road Axis Development Project (Central Section).

According to Saudi Press Agency, the development includes an 850-meter tunnel on Al-Thumama Road and four overpasses totaling approximately 2,000 meters in length. Construction is set to begin on Thursday, aiming to enhance traffic flow and connectivity between vital road corridors in the area.

The RCRC indicated that these projects align with ongoing efforts to advance infrastructure and improve the road network's efficiency and sustainability, in response to the city's rapid urban expansion. Coordination with relevant authorities has been established to implement a traffic diversion plan during the construction period. Additionally, navigation apps and mapping systems have been updated to maintain optimal traffic flow. A dedicated page on the RCRC website will provide updates on the project and related traffic modifications.

The construction work forms part of the RCRC's Main and Ring Road Axes Development Program, which encompasses over 500 km of road works throughout the capital. This program aims to upgrade major corridors, strengthen interconnections, and add new roads to develop an integrated and sustainable urban transport system, thereby enhancing road network efficiency and improving traffic flow across Riyadh.
