Ramadan Games Bridge Generations in Madinah

Madinah: Traditional and modern games continue to serve as a source of joy and connection for generations in Madinah, fostering a spirit of enthusiasm, competition, and camaraderie. Folk games, in particular, hold a special place in Ramadan traditions, bringing people together in the city’s neighborhoods.

According to Saudi Press Agency, among the popular traditional games are Taq Taqiyah and Ghameemah (Hide and Seek), which have long been part of Madinah’s cultural fabric. Moataz Mohammed, a young resident of the Al-Khalidiyah neighborhood, prefers games that challenge the mind, such as chess, dominoes, carom, and Basra (a local card game). He and his peers engage in these games during Ramadan nights, adding a unique festive touch to their gatherings.

Modern sports also play a significant role in Ramadan activities. Football and volleyball tournaments are organized across various neighborhoods, while others enjoy tennis, billiards, table tennis, and electronic games.
