Parrotfish Migration Brings Life to Farasan Islands’ Shores

Farasan islands: The parrotfish (Calotomus zonarchus) thrives in the warm, coral-rich waters of the Farasan Islands, playing a crucial role in maintaining the health of the local marine ecosystem. This species acts as a natural cleaner by feeding on algae and seagrass, which helps preserve the delicate balance of the reefs.

According to Saudi Press Agency, between late March and late April, Al-Hasis Beach witnesses a remarkable natural phenomenon as thousands of parrotfish migrate in synchronized schools. This migration, triggered by the full moon, is driven by the fish's instinct to mate and lay eggs, creating a captivating rhythm in the waters.

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture's branch in Jazan Region highlights that the shallow, algae-rich waters surrounding the reefs provide an ideal sanctuary and food source for these massive swarms.
