OIC Secretary General Welcomes Establishment of Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council

Jeddah--The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, has welcomed the announcement by the Yemeni President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi to establish a presidential leadership council that would manage the State, in accordance with the Yemeni constitution and the Gulf initiative and its executive mechanisms.

The OIC Secretary General expressed his hope that this announcement would contribute to creating conditions for an end to the fighting in Yemen and supporting negotiations between all Yemeni parties to reach a comprehensive political solution that would achieve peace, security and stability throughout Yemen.

The OIC Secretary General also valued the initiative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to provide $3 bn urgent assistance to the Yemeni economy.

The Secretary-General reiterated the OIC support for the efforts made to reach a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis, based on the Gulf initiative and its executive mechanisms, the outcomes of the comprehensive national dialogue and relevant Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2216. In this regard, the OIC appreciates the efforts of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen.
