Jeddah: Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha extended his congratulations to young people around the world, particularly those in OIC member states, in recognition of International Youth Day, observed annually on August 12. “This occasion reminds us of the importance of youth capital, which holds potential and, when trained and equipped in a healthy environment empowered with sufficient knowledge and skills, can play a vital role in the development of their communities and countries at all levels,” Taha said in a statement.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Taha emphasized that International Youth Day presents an opportunity to evaluate and monitor the OIC efforts toward implementing its 2025 Programme of Action, Youth Strategy, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He highlighted the importance of youth involvement in these initiatives to ensure progress and success in achieving the outlined objectives.

While congratulating youth worldwide on this occasion, Taha also expressed concern over the well-being of youth living in conflict zones. He acknowledged the challenges faced by young individuals in these areas and reiterated the OIC’s commitment to support and uplift them.

This year’s International Youth Day is observed under the theme “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,” emphasizing the critical role youth play in achieving the SDGs. Taha encouraged young people to actively participate in local actions that contribute to sustainable development and urged stakeholders to provide the necessary support and resources.
