OIC Media Observatory Documents Israel’s Crimes Against Education in Palestinian Territories

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) media observatory reported that students in schools and universities in the Gaza Strip have been deprived of education for the second consecutive year due to military aggression that has destroyed or rendered many schools non-operational. Many schools have been turned into shelters for the displaced.

The observatory said in a report that 360,000 students in the Gaza Strip are deprived of school education due to military aggression, including 88,000 university students being denied education for the second consecutive year. A total of 10,558 school students have been martyred, of which 79 were in the occupied West Bank. The report found that 667 university students have been martyred in Gaza and 35 in the West Bank.

The number of injured students in Gaza has reached 34,015 during the year from October 7, 2023, to October 7, 2024, the report said.

In terms of educational personnel, Israeli occupation forces have killed 425 Palestinians working in schools and 117
others in universities in the Gaza Strip.

The observatory said that the ongoing Israeli aggression has completely destroyed 62 public schools and significantly damaged 124 others. The report said that 126 government schools and 65 schools belonging to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) have been bombed. It reported that 35 university buildings have been completely destroyed, and 20 educational institutions have been partially destroyed, with damage inflicted on 57 university buildings.

In the West Bank, 72 schools have been vandalized by Israeli occupation forces, which stormed five universities, restricting and tampering with their contents. Israeli forces, alongside settlers, continue to perpetrate attacks on school students by blocking access roads leading to schools in several Palestinian towns and villages.
