Jeddah: The 22nd Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) took place in Jeddah, addressing significant geopolitical developments concerning Somalia and Palestine.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the OIC issued a final communiqu© with resolutions focused on the situation in the Federal Republic of Somalia and the ongoing conflict involving the Palestinian territories. This session was prompted by Israel's recent recognition of the "Somaliland" region as an independent state and its actions against Palestine.
The first resolution condemned Israel's recognition of Somaliland, asserting it as a breach of Somalia's sovereignty and a threat to regional peace. The resolution reaffirmed support for Somalia's territorial integrity and sovereignty, denouncing any foreign military presence or strategic investments on Somali soil without government approval. It emphasized the importance of international legal mechanisms to uphold Somalia's unity.
The second resolution addressed Israel's activities in Palestinian territories, highlighting violations of ceasefire agreements and illegal settlement expansions. It underscored the need for a comprehensive peace based on the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied territories and the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. The resolution condemned actions against Palestinian refugees and international humanitarian organizations and urged support for UNRWA and Palestinian prisoners' rights.
The OIC's resolutions call for international community action to maintain peace and security, emphasizing the use of multilateral forums to support Somalia and Palestine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
