New Statistics Law Takes Effect to Boost Data Role in Development, Decision-Making

Medina: The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) announced that the Statistics Law, approved by Royal Decree No. (M/29) dated 10/02/1447 AH (04/08/2025), officially came into effect this month. The new law replaces the General Statistics Law issued by Royal Decree No. (23), dated 07/12/1379 AH (01/06/1960), as well as the General Population Census Law, issued by Royal Decree No. (M/13) dated 23/04/1391 AH (16/06/1971).

According to Saudi Press Agency, the Statistics Law provides a modern regulatory framework aligned with Saudi Arabia's vision to build a comprehensive knowledge system based on accurate data. It serves as a cornerstone for enhancing the quality and credibility of official statistics and realizing Saudi Vision 2030 objectives. The new law represents a significant legislative milestone in the Kingdom's statistical transformation, deepening the impact of statistics in supporting development plans and decision-making.

GASTAT invited statisticians, academics, researchers, and all interested parties to visit its website to check the full text of the law, which recently was published in both Arabic and English.
