Minister of Energy Unveils 14 New Oil and Gas Discoveries in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh: Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz has announced that the Saudi Arabian Oil Company, known as Saudi Aramco, has made significant discoveries across the Eastern Region and the Empty Quarter. The new findings include a total of fourteen Arabian oil and natural gas fields and reservoirs, consisting of six Arabian oil fields and two reservoirs, in addition to two natural gas fields and four reservoirs.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the minister extended congratulations to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He expressed his hopes for continued growth and prosperity for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its people in light of these discoveries.

Prince Abdulaziz detailed the discoveries, highlighting the “Jabu” oil field in the Eastern Region, where Arabian Extra Light Oil flowed from “Jabu-1” well at a rate of 800 barrels per day (bpd). The “Sayahid” oil field was also discovered, producing 630 bpd of Arabian Extra Light Oil from “Sayahid-2” well. The “Ayfan” oil field saw a flow of 2,840 bpd of Arabian Extra Light Oil from “Ayfan-2” well, with 0.44 million standard cubic feet (MMscf) of associated gas per day. Moreover, the “Jubaila” oil reservoir in the “Berri” field produced 520 bpd of Arabian Light Oil from “Berri-907” well, alongside 0.2 MMscf of gas per day. The “Unayzah-A” oil reservoir in “Mazalij” field yielded 1,011 bpd of Arabian Super Light Oil from “Mazalij-64” well, with 0.92 MMscf of associated gas per day.

In the Empty Quarter, new oil fields were discovered, such as “Nuwayr,” where Arabian Medium Oil flowed at 1,800 bpd from “Nuwayr-1” well with 0.55 MMscf of associated gas per day. The “Damda” oil field produced 200 bpd of Arabian Medium Oil from “Mishrif-C” reservoir, and 115 bpd of Arabian Extra Light Oil from “Mishrif-D” reservoir. The “Qurqas” oil field confirmed a flow of 210 bpd of Arabian Medium Oil from “Qurqas-1” well.

For natural gas, the “Ghizlan” gas field in the Eastern Region was discovered, producing 32 MMscf of gas per day from “Unayzah B/C” reservoir, with 2,525 barrels of condensate. The “Araam” gas field yielded 24 MMscf per day with 3,000 barrels of condensate from “Araam-1” well.

The “Qusaiba” unconventional gas reservoir in “Mihwaz” field produced 3.5 MMscf per day with 485 barrels of condensate. In the Empty Quarter, the “Arab-C” gas reservoir in “Marzouq” field generated 9.5 MMscf per day from “Marzouq-8” well, which also led to the discovery of “Arab-D” gas reservoir with a flow of 10 MMscf per day, and “Upper Jubaila” gas reservoir with 1.5 MMscf per day.

Prince Abdulaziz emphasized the importance of these discoveries for enhancing Saudi Arabia’s position in the global energy sector, supporting economic growth, and aligning with Vision 2030. These findings are expected to bolster the Kingdom’s capability to efficiently and sustainably meet energy demands, ensuring energy security for the future.
