Markh Plant: Jazan’s Natural Element Combines Environmental Value and Folk Heritage

Jazan: The Markh plant is among the most prominent desert plants in Jazan Region, particularly in its plains, coastal areas, and valleys. It represents an important environmental feature linked to cultural heritage and traditional uses within the local ecosystem.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the plant is distinguished by its remarkable ability to adapt to harsh climatic conditions, thriving in dry, sandy soils through deep root systems that extend deep underground in search of water. It also plays a vital environmental role by helping to stabilize sandy soils and reduce sand encroachment. In addition, it serves as a food source for camels during periods of drought.

The Markh is part of the plant diversity in Jazan, underscoring the need to raise awareness of its environmental importance and to preserve it as a natural component that reflects the richness of the region's vegetation cover.
