Makkah: The Holy Makkah Municipality, in collaboration with King Abdulaziz University, has introduced an environmental initiative in Makkah and the holy sites to educate pilgrims on waste sorting and disposal. The initiative aims to promote environmental sustainability during the Hajj season while strengthening partnerships between the municipal sector and academic institutions.
According to Saudi Press Agency, specialized teams and volunteers from both organizations are conducting field-based awareness sessions. These sessions focus on teaching pilgrims the importance of separating organic and inorganic waste and following proper environmental guidelines.
The municipality highlighted that the initiative’s goal is to instill cleanliness, public health, and environmental awareness among pilgrims. It also seeks to involve various community segments in assisting pilgrims, ultimately showcasing a civilized and sustainable image of Makkah and the Hajj season.
