Madinah’s Renowned Green Lemons Enter Harvest Season

Madinah: Farms in Madinah have begun harvesting this season's crop of locally grown green lemons, known as Abu Zuhair, one of the most prominent seasonal agricultural products in Madinah Region and among its most renowned citrus varieties, benefiting from the area's dry climate and clay soil in farms located across the region.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Abu Zuhair lemons are widely cultivated in palm farms south of Madinah, in addition to numerous farms in AlUla Governorate, where suitable soil and climatic conditions support the growth of lemon trees and the production of high-quality fruit.

Madinah's Abu Zuhair green lemon represents an important economic resource for farmers and families working in the cottage industry and contributes to diversifying agricultural income sources during the summer season. Madinah lemons begin to ripen in June, with harvesting continuing through September.

Compared with other lemon varieties, Abu Zuhair is distinguished by its bright green color, its ability to adapt to Madinah's hot and dry climate, high-quality fruit, abundant juice content, distinctive fragrance, and balanced acidity. These qualities have made it a preferred choice for household and commercial use in the preparation of beverages and foods. The variety enjoys strong demand in local markets and competes with imported products.
