Bologna: General Manager of Translation at the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission Dr. Hailah Al-Khalaf presented a specialized seminar as part of the cultural program of the Bologna Children's Book Fair 2026, during which she reviewed the experience of the 'Tarjim' initiative and its role in developing Arabic children's literature content and enhancing its global presence.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Al-Khalaf highlighted the achievements of the initiative since its launch in 2021, noting that it has supported the translation of more than 460 books for children and young adults. She stressed that the initiative is not limited to transferring texts, but focuses on building a thinking generation by introducing books that promote critical and philosophical thinking among children, alongside books addressing human values.
She also highlighted the efforts of 'Tarjim' in diversifying cultural content directed at Arab children through translating global works from various cultures while preserving their uniqueness, in addition to developing interactive books that support linguistic and cognitive growth in early stages. The initiative has also contributed to translating 53 Saudi children's stories into eight languages, enhancing the reach of Saudi culture to readers worldwide. Al-Khalaf noted that the initiative, by 2030, aims to build a rich library for Arab children that combines local production with global content, reflecting the diversity of human experiences and promoting cultural openness.
