Law Student Resumes Studies and Art After Heart Transplant

Riyadh:A young law student has returned to her studies and passion for art following a successful heart transplant at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Durrah, a woman in her twenties, learned she carried a genetic mutation linked to cardiomyopathy after her sister was diagnosed with the condition. Genetic testing revealed the mutation, enabling doctors to monitor her heart condition before it progressed.

Dr. Ahmed Almustafa, a consultant in adult heart failure at the hospital, emphasized the importance of genetic testing in identifying carriers of cardiomyopathy. This proactive approach allows for early monitoring and intervention before the disease becomes advanced.

As Durrah's heart function worsened, she underwent various medical procedures and was eventually placed on the transplant waiting list. After waiting for about five months, a suitable donor was found, and she underwent an eight-hour surgery.

Following the operation, she was temporarily supported by ECMO to help her body adjust to the new heart. Her recovery was successful, and she soon returned to her studies, sports, travel, and paintingher greatest passion.
