Riyadh: King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) Assistant Supervisor-General for Planning and Development Dr. Aqeel Al-Ghamdi met today with Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) Director Gunn Jorid Roset and her accompanying delegation. The meeting was attended by Norwegian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Kjersti Tromsdal.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the meeting focused on reviewing areas of cooperation in humanitarian and relief work, aiming to enhance the quality of life and support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. Discussions emphasized improving the efficiency and effectiveness of humanitarian assistance to developing countries, ensuring aid reaches the most vulnerable populations in accordance with international humanitarian standards and best practices.
The dialogue between the two sides addressed the latest humanitarian developments in key areas of concern, such as the situation in Palestine, particularly the Gaza Strip, amid rising humanitarian needs. Additionally, they reviewed the ongoing developments in Sudan, Syria, and Yemen, highlighting the urgent needs of populations affected by prolonged conflict and crisis.
Further discussions explored practical avenues for enhanced cooperation between KSrelief and NORAD. These included support for humanitarian partners, improved coordination amidst global funding challenges, and mechanisms to ensure the sustainability and impact of humanitarian responses. The meeting also considered joint efforts on relief, development, and humanitarian projects, as well as volunteer programs and local capacity-building initiatives.
