King Saud Medical City Conducts 512 Severe Gynecological Tumor Resections in 3 Years

King Saud Medical City (KSMC), a vital part of the Riyadh First Health Cluster, announced successfully performing at least 512 surgeries for severe gynecological tumor removal over the past three years at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital. Moreover, the gynecological oncology clinics in the medical city also attended to about 4,000 patients during the same period, with cases including ovarian, cervical, uterine, endometrial, vaginal, and vulvar cancers. The announcement coincided with an event held by the KSMC on Monday to commemorate the World Gynecologic Oncology Day, under the theme "Stay ahead: your awareness, your salvation." The event aims to raise awareness about gynecological cancers, preventive measures, and the significance of early detection. The KSMC noted that symptoms of gynecological cancers vary based on the tumor's location, size, and growth rate, including abnormal vaginal bleeding, unusual discharge, abdominal pain or pressure, abdominal swelling, changes in bowel and bladder habit s, pain during intercourse, and the presence of lumps or sores. The gynecological oncology surgical team, a multidisciplinary group, provides treatment and care for women affected by these cancers, tailoring treatment according to the disease stage, symptom severity, and the patient's overall health, the KSMC stated. Treatment typically entails surgery to excise as much of the tumor as feasible and determine the extent of its spread, along with radiation, chemotherapy, and hormonal therapy.
