Riyadh: King Salman Royal Reserve The King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority has highlighted the Arta plant (Calligonum comosum) as a key perennial wild shrub that enhances biodiversity and protects the desert environment within the reserve.
According to Saudi Press Agency, growing up to two meters tall, the woody-based shrub features branching stems and coarse, hairy fruits. These adaptations allow it to thrive in sandy terrains and effectively mitigate sand encroachment.
Recorded across most areas of the reserve, the plant is part of ongoing documentation and educational initiatives by the authority to raise environmental awareness and preserve native vegetation for future generations.
