Al-khafs: The King Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority has announced a strategic initiative aimed at rehabilitating vegetation cover within the reserve. The project targets the planting of 1 million seedlings by 2030, in collaboration with the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), following a comprehensive cooperation agreement established last year.
According to Saudi Press Agency, this initiative supports the Saudi Green Initiative and aims to protect biodiversity, combat desertification, conserve natural resources, and enhance environmental sustainability within the reserve. It aligns with national efforts to expand vegetation cover, mitigate climate change impacts, and fulfill the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
The project features an automated irrigation system designed for efficient water management, aiming to minimize environmental impact. Additionally, the use of recycled materials in the project’s infrastructure underscores a commitment to circular economy principles and environmental responsibility.
The plant species selected for cultivation include local varieties well-suited to the reserve’s environmental conditions, such as talh, wild sidr, athel, and ghaf. These selections aim to support biodiversity, reduce land degradation, and enhance ecosystem sustainability.
This project is part of a broader set of initiatives by the authority to protect the natural environment, foster strategic partnerships with national entities, and elevate the reserve’s status as a leading national project in nature conservation. It clearly supports Saudi Vision 2030 objectives related to environmental sustainability and quality of life.
