Riyadh: The ministers of foreign affairs from 24 countries and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation have issued a joint statement condemning the illegal visit of an Israeli official to the 'Somaliland' region of the Federal Republic of Somalia on January 6, 2026. The statement was released following a meeting of ministers from nations including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, and the Republic of Trkiye, among others.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the foreign ministers recalled a previous statement from December 27, 2025, rejecting Israel's recognition of the "Somaliland" region. The ministers expressed strong condemnation of the visit, highlighting it as a violation of Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. They stressed that such actions undermine established international norms and the United Nations Charter.

The ministers reaffirmed their support for Somalia's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, emphasizing that secessionist agendas threaten regional stability. They underscored the importance of respecting international law, non-interference in sovereign affairs, and adherence to diplomatic norms for both regional and international stability.

The joint statement commended Somalia's dedication to peaceful international engagement, constructive diplomacy, and adherence to international law. The ministers pledged continued support for Somalia's diplomatic and legal efforts to protect its sovereignty and stability. They called on Israel to respect Somalia's sovereignty and revoke its recognition of Somaliland in compliance with international law.
