JIAT Issues Statement on Allegation that Coalition Forces Targeted Compact Pick-up Truck and House in Hajjah Governorate

Riyadh: The Joint Incidents Assessment Team (JIAT) issued a statement regarding the allegation that the Coalition Forces targeted a compact pick-up truck and a house in Al-Jarr village in Abs directorate of Hajjah governorate on 16/06/2019 as follows:

According to Saudi Press Agency, JIAT reported that at 9:00 am on 16/06/2019, an airplane and possibly a drone were observed flying over Al-Jarr village in Abs directorate of Hajjah governorate. Approximately ten minutes later, an airstrike by coalition forces allegedly hit a compact pick-up truck parked in the village, followed by a second airstrike that destroyed a house ten minutes after the first strike. Coordinates of the claimed location were provided.

JIAT vetted the incident by reviewing all documents, including air tasking orders, daily mission schedules, mission execution procedures, after mission reports, satellite images, and conducting visits to the operation centers and related field units. They also reviewed Coalition Forces rules of engagement, provisions, and principles of International Humanitarian Law and its customary rules. After assessing the evidence, JIAT confirmed that Al-Jarr village is located in the center of Abs directorate in Hajjah governorate.

By studying the air missions carried out by the Coalition Forces fighter airplanes and UAVs on 16/06/2019, the date of the claim, JIAT found no air missions were conducted by the Coalition Forces on Al-Jarr village.

JIAT further analyzed the daily mission schedule from one day prior and one day after the claimed date. On 15/06/2019, the day before the claimed date, JIAT found no air missions by the Coalition Forces on Al-Jarr village. Similarly, on 17/06/2019, the day after the claimed date, there were no air missions conducted on the village.

JIAT specialists also studied satellite images of the claimed location after the date of the claim and found no signs of aerial targeting.

In light of the findings, JIAT concluded that the Coalition Forces did not target a compact pick-up truck or a house in Al-Jarr village in Abs directorate of Hajjah governorate on 16/06/2019, as claimed.
