Jazan Mango: Rising Production Opens Promising Opportunities in Food Processing

Jazan: Mango fruits hang across farms in Jazan with every summer season, in a scene reflecting the vitality of the agricultural sector in the region, which has become one of the leading mango-producing regions in the Kingdom, supported by a suitable climate, diverse varieties, and high product quality.

According to Saudi Press Agency, statistics from the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture indicate that the region includes more than one million mango trees, with annual production reaching about 65,000 tons, boosting the presence of this product as a key pillar of the local agricultural economy.

With this production momentum, attention is turning to post-harvest stages as the broader pathway for increasing economic value, especially amid growing interest in food processing industries, which allow mango to be transformed into multiple products such as juices, dried products, and jams.

Specialists in the agricultural sector believe that expanding processing industries can help extend the product's marketing lifespan, achieve market balance during peak production periods, and support income stability for farmers.

With the continued growth in mango production and the diversity of its varieties in Jazan, alongside increasing production of other tropical fruits, opportunities are emerging to transform it from a seasonal product into an active component within an integrated food industrial system, enhancing its economic presence and supporting the diversification of the region's agricultural sector.
