Bangkok: Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif Al Alsheikh inaugurated the third Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) “Khair Ummah” Conference today in Bangkok, the capital of the Kingdom of Thailand.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the conference is organized by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance and attended by prominent figures such as President of the Thai National Assembly Wanmuhamadnoor Matha. Several ministers, muftis, and heads of Islamic universities, centers, and associations, alongside religious and cultural leaders from ASEAN member states, are also participating in the event.
In his speech, the minister highlighted the conference’s objective to bolster Islamic unity and adherence to truth, aiming for solidarity that preserves Islamic identity. He underlined the significant responsibility scholars hold amidst global circumstances and various intellectual, political, social, and security changes.
He stated, ‘This situation calls for a real response from scholars and researchers to clarify the right religious stance against sedition and to reinforce the core principles of the Islamic faith.’
Al Alsheikh emphasized the increasing responsibility on scholars and preachers amidst global calls for intellectual and ideological deviation. This demands thoughtful reflection to realign efforts, uphold Sharia, safeguard the Prophet’s Sunnah, advance Islamic values, and combat extremism.
He reiterated that the Kingdom, under its leadership, diligently fulfills its responsibility towards the Two Holy Mosques and holy sites. ‘Saudi Arabia has committed to serving pilgrims, visitors, and Umrah performers by implementing substantial projects that enhance their experience and facilitate the performance of their rituals. Furthermore, the Kingdom is dedicated to the printing and distribution of the Holy Quran in multiple languages worldwide,’ he said.
The Minister of Islamic Affairs expressed gratitude to Thailand’s government for their support and cooperation in ensuring the conference’s success.
Several participants also delivered speeches, thanking Saudi Arabia for its service to Islam and Muslims. They affirmed the importance of consolidating values of tolerance and moderation, combating violence and extremism, and promoting cooperation among Muslims.
The two-day conference in Bangkok aims to serve humanity, support peace and justice, and enhance communication between Islamic institutions.
