Riyadh: Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group President Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser emphasized the importance of unified efforts and global partnerships to tackle environmental challenges, particularly desertification and drought. He called for collaborative action to mobilize resources and lead a fair transition toward a sustainable future for humanity and the planet.
According to Saudi Press Agency, speaking at the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP16) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), held in Riyadh, Dr. Al Jasser highlighted the urgent need to address the repercussions of drought, land degradation, and desertification. These challenges, he noted, disproportionately impact member states and global communities, particularly in regions already grappling with poverty, climate change, and biodiversity loss.
Dr. Al Jasser praised the Arab Coordination Group’s efforts, in cooperation with Saudi Arabia and the UNCCD Secretariat, to prepare for this pivotal c
onference. He reaffirmed the group’s commitment to supporting partnerships formed at COP16, extending support well beyond the conference to ensure sustainable solutions for combating desertification and its associated challenges.
