Iraqi President and GCC Secretary-General Discuss Regional Security

Baghdad: President of the Republic of Iraq Nizar Amedi received Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Albudaiwi in Baghdad today. At the outset of the meeting, President Amedi welcomed the GCC secretary-general to Iraq, saying the visit reflects the depth of relations between the two sides. He also affirmed that the security of Iraq and the GCC member states is interconnected.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Albudaiwi conveyed the best wishes of the leaders of the GCC member states to the president for continued progress, prosperity, security, and stability. He also congratulated President Amedi on assuming the presidency of Iraq and on the formation of the new government.

The meeting reviewed relations between the two sides and discussed ways to strengthen and further develop them to achieve their shared objectives. It also addressed coordination on several regional and international issues of mutual interest, as well as ways to enhance security and stability in the region.
