Iranian official: Iraq paid 10 billion dollars for gas dues

The Head of the Iranian-Iraqi Chamber of Commerce, Yahya Al-Ishaq, announced today, Monday, that Iraq had paid $10 billion for Iran's gas export dues, and transferred this amount to TBI Bank to be used in non-sanctioned purchases such as basic commodities and medicines.

He added that the private sector has no problem in obtaining its money from Iraq. Our debts from Iraq are mainly related to government institutions, gas and electricity debts.

The official, who was speaking today, Monday, to a gathering of Iranian merchants and representatives of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, referred to the trade relations between Tehran and Baghdad, considering it an almost golden opportunity.

He continued: "We live in special circumstances in the world and the region, and our constant is to pursue national interests and seize commercial opportunities in Iraq."
