IMCTC Hosts Global Dialogue on Counter-Terrorism Strategies During UN Week

New york: The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), in collaboration with Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, and in cooperation with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the Terrorist Financing Targeting Center (TFTC), convened a high-profile international dialogue session titled "Capacity Building in Low-Capacity and High-Risk Environments." This session was a key side event during the UN Counter-Terrorism Week, held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the session was presided over by IMCTC Secretary-General Major General Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi and moderated by Mauro Miedico, Director of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre. The event gathered experts, specialists, and representatives from member states, along with regional and international organizations.

In his opening speech, Major General Al-Moghedi stressed the necessity for enhanced international cooperation and coordination to combat the evolving threats of terrorism financing. He underscored the importance of capacity building, knowledge sharing, and institutional partnerships as essential elements in strengthening national systems and preparing countries to tackle this global threat. He also shared insights into IMCTC's role in implementing specialized programs and initiatives to bolster the capacities of its member states in various counterterrorism domains.

The dialogue featured a range of discussions focused on operational, institutional, and regulatory challenges in combating terrorism financing within low-capacity and high-risk settings. Participants examined international best practices and strategies to strengthen capacity-building efforts, improve national response capabilities, and broaden international cooperation to mitigate emerging threats and risks.
