Jakarta:The Board of the Human Rights Commission (HRC) has issued a strong condemnation of the Houthi terrorist militia's attacks on Saudi Arabia, which have deliberately targeted civilians, civilian and economic facilities, and vital infrastructure.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the board specifically condemned the attacks on Islamic holy sites and mosques, including the Two Holy Mosques, which are Islam's most sacred places. It emphasized that these actions are criminal attacks on civilian objects and highlight the group's intent to harm innocent people.
The HRC noted that these attacks represent serious violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law, particularly the principles safeguarding civilians and civilian objects. The resulting deaths, injuries, and material damage illustrate the severity and consequences of these attacks, which cannot be justified under any circumstances.
The commission praised the Saudi government's efforts in securing the Kingdom, protecting citizens, residents, and Islamic holy sites, and countering such terrorist threats. It also highlighted the government's commitment to mobilizing necessary resources to mitigate the impacts of these attacks.
International human rights bodies and mechanisms were urged by the commission to respond appropriately to these egregious attacks. The HRC emphasized that the actions of the Houthi militia demonstrate a disregard for international human rights and humanitarian laws. It reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's right to self-defense as enshrined in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
The commission commended the bravery and dedication of Saudi soldiers across various sectors in defending the nation and its security. It acknowledged their courage and vigilance in fulfilling their national duties.
The HRC expressed condolences to the families of the victims and offered prayers for the deceased and a speedy recovery for those injured.
