Najran: A health expert has urged pilgrims to follow essential preventive measures during Hajj, warning that the large-scale gathering and high temperatures make awareness and precaution critical for a safe and healthy experience. Dr. Nouf Al-Shamlan from the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University's Academic Medical City noted that heat exhaustion, dehydration, respiratory infections, and muscle and foot fatigue are among the most common health issues during Hajj due to long walking distances and heavy crowding.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Dr. Al-Shamlan emphasized that adherence to preventive guidelines significantly helps reduce health complications and medical emergencies. She advised pilgrims to drink sufficient water, use umbrellas to avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, maintain personal hygiene by washing hands and wearing masks in crowded areas, take regular medication for chronic conditions, and rest immediately if experiencing fatigue or dizziness.
Dr. Al-Shamlan also stressed the importance of receiving the recommended vaccinations prior to travel, including meningococcal and influenza vaccines. She encouraged elderly pilgrims and those with chronic illnesses to consult a physician before travelling. Health awareness remains a cornerstone of ensuring a safe Hajj journey, she emphasized, underlining Saudi Arabia's efforts, under Vision 2030, to enhance pilgrims' safety through advanced preventive care and integrated healthcare systems.
