Arar: A giant sunspot, numbered 4274, was observed yesterday in the sky above Arar, in the Northern Borders Region. Member of the astronomy and space club, Adnan Khalifa, noted the size of sunspot 4274, stating it is among the largest recorded this year and can be clearly observed with binoculars fitted with special filters.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Khalifa explained that sunspots are magnetically active regions on the Sun’s surface that have the potential to produce solar flares or radiation emissions. Such emissions may temporarily affect radio communications in specific parts of Earth. He further clarified that these phenomena are both natural and cyclical, forming part of the approximately 11-year solar cycle.
