Riyadh: Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the Lebanese Republic and the Israeli occupation forces, hoping that it would constitute a serious step toward stopping the war in Lebanon, Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanese territory, implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and the return of the displaced to their homes.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the GCC Secretary General added that the ceasefire agreement will contribute to protecting the lives of innocent civilians and creating conditions for implementing all international resolutions related to Lebanon. He called on all parties to fully adhere to this agreement to contribute to achieving security and stability in the region.
Al-Budaiwi stressed the GCC’s firm stances with the Lebanese people and its continued support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, security, and stability, which was included in the 161st Ministerial Statement of the GCC. The ministerial statemen
t called for the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701 and stressed the need for Israel to respect the Lebanese borders and for the Lebanese government to extend its control over all Lebanese territories in accordance with relevant Security Council resolutions and the Taif Agreement.
