Riyadh: The Gulf Cooperation Council Standardization Organization (GSO) marked World Metrology Day, which is celebrated annually on May 20. This year’s theme, ‘Measurements for All Times, for All People,’ highlights the universal significance of precise measurements.
According to Saudi Press Agency, GSO Chairman Eng. Nawaf Ibrahim Al-Mana emphasized the role of the Gulf Association for Metrology (Gulfmet) in advancing measurement science within member states. National metrology laboratories are enhancing measurement technologies and engaging in intercomparison programs organized by Gulfmet or the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM). These initiatives aim to achieve international recognition for measurement and calibration capabilities, ensuring the global reliability of measurement results.
World Metrology Day serves as a reminder of the Metre Convention’s signing on May 20, 1875. Representatives from 17 countries signed the convention, establishing a framework for international cooperation in metrology and its applications across industry, commerce, and society.
