GCC Secretary-General Urges Global Recognition of State of Palestine

New York City: The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, has called on all nations to join the coalition advocating for a two-state solution and to officially recognize the State of Palestine. This initiative is seen as a crucial step toward rebuilding trust and establishing lasting peace in the region by recognizing the Palestinian state’s identity on the global legal and diplomatic stage.

According to Union of OIC News Agencies, Al-Budaiwi made these remarks during a speech at the High-Level Ministerial Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Palestinian Question and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution. The conference was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City and was chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in collaboration with the French Republic. It featured high-level participation from countries, organizations, and regional and international institutions.

Al-Budaiwi expressed gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for their leadership in initiating an international coalition to implement the two-state solution. He highlighted this as a strategic vision that refocuses international attention on the core issues of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Reaffirming the GCC’s longstanding positions, Al-Budaiwi emphasized support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He condemned Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and rejected settlement policies that threaten the viability of a two-state solution. Furthermore, he underscored the importance of UNRWA and called for sustained humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts, urging the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities.
