GCC Secretary-General Stresses Indivisibility of Member States’ Security

Manama:Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi has affirmed the indivisibility of security among GCC member states, emphasizing the need to bolster regional security architecture. Albudaiwi's remarks were made during the third plenary session, titled "Pillars of Regional Security," at the 22nd Regional Security Summit "IISS Manama Dialogue 2026" in Manama.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Albudaiwi highlighted that recent regional developments have posed severe challenges to security following attacks from Iran on GCC states and vital facilities. Despite the council's non-involvement in these conflicts and its diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions, the repercussions have affected the global economy, particularly through disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz impacting energy prices and global supply chains.

Albudaiwi condemned the Houthi militias' terrorist attacks against Saudi Arabia, particularly targeting Makkah and Madinah, labeling them as grave violations of Islamic holy sites and dangerous escalations. He outlined five primary pillars for building sustainable regional security, including respect for international law, collective defense, diplomatic efforts, protection of maritime navigation, and enhancing stability through development and partnerships.

The Secretary-General reiterated the GCC's support for political resolutions in Yemen, Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon, and emphasized the importance of a just solution to the Palestinian cause. He concluded by stressing that regional security requires adherence to international rules and a security framework shaped by regional states, aligned with the GCC Regional Security Vision launched in 2024.
