Riyadh: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on Monday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in Riyadh between the GCC General Secretariat and the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission (NRRC), in the presence of GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Albudaiwi stated that the MoU aims to strengthen and develop cooperation and coordination in nuclear and radiological safety and security, as well as protection against nuclear and radiological risks and emergencies. He highlighted that the agreement supports joint Gulf action and the exchange of expertise and information in related fields, contributing to enhanced preparedness and response to nuclear and radiological emergencies and greater coordination among relevant authorities in GCC countries.

He further explained that the MoU seeks to leverage NRRC's expertise and capabilities and develop mechanisms for cooperation to strengthen nuclear and radiological safety and security across the GCC. Additionally, the agreement encompasses several areas of cooperation between the two parties, including organizing visits by experts and specialists, benefiting from conferences, seminars, and workshops, and conducting research and studies in the same field.
